About us

InSituMetrix is a startup project of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL)

We develop a cutting-edge technology that delivers - unlike any commercially available alternatives - reliable and comprehensive insights of the underground stress at significant depths (including kilometers deep). We reduce risks and boosts profitability of geo-energy projects.

Mission & Vision

The long-term goals and vision of the startup

At InSituMetrix, our long-term vision is to become a global leader in subsurface stress measurement technology, transforming how geo-energy projects assess underground conditions. We aim to expand the reach of our innovative solutions across diverse industries, including oil and gas, geothermal energy, CO2 storage, and hydrogen storage.

By providing reliable, comprehensive, and precise insights into underground stress states, we seek to mitigate risks, enhance operational safety, and optimize the economic performance of energy projects worldwide.

Looking ahead, we envision a future where accurate stress measurements are standard practice, contributing to the success of energy projects and promoting global energy sustainability.

Core values

At InSituMetrix, our core values stem from our mission to overcome the fundamental challenges of geo-energy projects. These principles guide our approach to innovation and execution:

  • Our drive for innovation is centered on solving the critical issue of unreliable underground stress data. We are committed to developing technologies that not only improve accuracy but also push the boundaries of what's possible in subsurface measurement, ensuring our solutions address real-world problems with impactful results.

  • The risks of wellbore instabilities, induced seismicity, and unexpected fractures threaten project safety and success. At InSituMetrix, we prioritize providing a technology that enables proactive, rather than reactive, decisions. This empowers our clients to prevent issues before they arise, ensuring smoother, safer operations.-      The risks of wellbore instabilities, induced seismicity, and unexpected fractures threaten project safety and success. • Conservatism in geo-energy operations stems from uncertainty, leading to reduced profitability. Our technology enables clients to operate with confidence, optimizing operational parameters like injection pressures without compromising safety. This balance between risk management and operational optimization drives better economic performance.

  • At the heart of everything we do is a dedication to precision and reliability. We aim to not only meet industry standards but to set new ones. With our connection to EPFL, we embrace the highest standards of technical excellence.
